Today’s subject is a fun one. It’s all about something we can consume at that blessed event otherwise known as weddings. I’ll start off this post/rant
with some photos of cakes to give an idea of the variety that can be done with wedding cakes.
The above photo was one that I took (k certain friend?
) at a friend’s wedding in September. It’s two different kinds of cake-blueberry and chocolate-on different layers, of course. I had never had blueberry for a cake before!

This photo was taken with incredibly bad lighting at my cousin’s wedding two years ago. (Boy did I have to Photoshop this photo to even get it to look decent!) This cake was simple yet elegant.

This was a cake that one of my neighbors had at her wedding. Since she teaches swing dancing, the cake had kind of a ’50s feel to it. It was cute!
Wedding cakes are all for the same purpose but can look so different, as the above pictures show. They can even be cupcakes! I wonder if that is cheaper? I’d imagine not, but hey, you can dream!
Wedding cake makers are also as different as their cakes. I went with my friend (who had the first cake above) to her first bakery, and they charged for the cake tasting. I hear that other places don’t. Of course, that makes sense, because if you feel like just getting a bunch of free cakes and really aren’t getting married (people do that!), you are wasting their time.
What I can’t believe is how expensive cakes are! The more elaborate, the more expensive, of course. What I cannot believe is that a wedding cake can be $1,000 and up! Makes sense since most places charge by the slice. Five dollars per slice is a common charge, but I’d imagine that’s for folks going to a bakery in suburbia. Imagine how much bakeries in Beverly Hills must charge! I know that I would personally want to take leftover cake home with me if I had a cake that cost over $1,000!
And so, since this is my blog, I will end this post with photos that I think are beautiful wedding cakes.

simple yet elegant
Even though the cake topper is a bit creepy, it’s still friggin awesome.
I like this too.
I hope you have enjoyed my wedding cake rant. Tomorrow we will get into our princess mode and discuss wedding gowns. Yippeeeee!!!

We got married in December, so I designed the cake to look like a stack of presents with a hat box on top. Would you believe that the next holiday season, I was walking by their store front and there was the cake *I* designed in the window? >:-[ The flavor was dark chocolate raspberry truffle. So it was a layer cake with the raspberry and chocolate truffle in the middle. YUM.
Too bad you didn’t copyright your cake design!
very beautiful cakes, it would be nice if you had some prices listed under each one. very beautiful work.
