Internet access again! Woo Hoo!

28 04 2009

I have been without internet access for the past five days. I feel like a dog without a bone without internet! The guy doing the repairs almost left too soon, but my modem started malfunctioning (again) right before he left (thank goodness!), so he correctly diagnosed the problem this time, I believe. The diagnosis? The phone jack, including the inside, was covered with paint! I laughed and I said to him, “I can buy a phone jack for $10 somewhere. It’s okay.” He told me then that he would have to charge me for a service call and that the phone jack would be included in that price. Fine. At least I got my money’s worth instead of a half-assed diagnosis again. Needless to say, my internet service is working fine-and I think even a little faster, according to the guy testing it. (I guess…)

I’ve been sick since Sunday with a cold. I know it’s not that swine flu, but it still blows nonetheless. :(  When I got home yesterday from getting something done, I hit the bed so fast and woke up three hours later. I feel better today, but I’m still sneezing like mad.

The weight loss plan is working like a charm. Who would have thought that an HMO group would actually have a good medically supervised weight loss plan? I’ve lost 27 pounds so far, according to my scale this morning !!! Yippeeee!!!! :)

And finally, since no post is complete without a picture, I found this random one of a neighbor’s dog-in-law (her mother-in-law’s dog :) ), a Pomeranian named JP. Serious looking little M’er F’er!

Hopefully I’ll be able to post tomorrow. Until then!

ZZZZZZZZZZZZZ…….

21 04 2009

I’ve been so incredibly tired today! They told us two weeks ago at the beginning of the weight loss program that one of the symptoms we would probably feel would be fatigue, and man, have I felt it today. I had to hit the post office and then when I got home, I crashed. (The nurse practicioner said to be gentle with your body if this happens and rest. It wasn’t hard to follow orders.) I just woke up a little while ago and need to get back on the job hunt again.

Speaking of that, here is my frustration that I need an opinion about. I have been applying for marketing positions at different companies. You name it, I have been applying, but the only places that I receive calls from for interviews are real estate companies. And those have been few and far between! I feel like when they see six years of “escrow” on my resume that they ignore it. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I can get past this? Of course I have generalized my skills and made them not so escrow related. Hell, the escrow related skills are off the resume-that is, unless I’m applying for something real estate related. What in the heck do I do?? A friend of mine suggested calling every place that I send my resume to. (He thought three times a day, but that’s a little excessive in my book. Who knows though, maybe three times a day is needed at this point…)

And so, here I go again…

I can’t believe that I can get in!

20 04 2009

My giddiness of being able to log in to this site was short lived when I got error messages this morning when attempting to log in. After being on the phone with Norton and then my ISP, I am happily back in action again!

And so, because of that, I believe you all are owed a post! :)

I went to Primm Valley this weekend. This picture was taken at Buffalo Bill’s Hotel in the buffet line. To Californians this is known as Stateline, the casinos in Nevada just over the California/Nevada border that you hit before you get to Vegas. Bus tours go there all the time from California because it really is a quick turn-around day trip. A friend of mine held this to raise money for her daughter’s trip to China. You really can make some decent money off these trips if you charge enough for the tickets. I went for free though due to the fact that I have no money. :)  Plus, if you can believe it, the tour gets charged extra money ($25 per person!) on these things if you don’t guarantee them at least 45 people. She didn’t have 45 people, so she asked me to sit on the bus to help her out. You get a free buffet ticket with these junkets, so I got that for free. I was so pleased with myself though because while my friend and her family were chowing down on unhealthy breakfast food, I had a huge salad due to being on the weight loss program. I couldn’t believe that it lasted me the whole day!

And did I win anything, you wonder? I brought $20 with me and won $100 and gambled it all back….

Thank goodness I don’t live near the casinos!

 Onto the job hunt again!

Virus free and loving it!!!

19 04 2009

It just took Norton four hours to get everything in tip top shape. So here I sit, blogging again from my own computer! Things like that just make me so giddy! ;)

Right now though, I need to get resume happy. I need me a job in the worst possible way….

I will love Norton once I pay my credit card bill…

10 04 2009

I realized yesterday that in order for me to have a fully functioning computer that I need to get in touch with Norton and find a way to scream “HELP!!!!” I tried to do that through chat capabilities, but wouldn’t you know it, the friggin virus said noo. After that, I called Norton’s 1-800 number. After two seconds, I read the wording that says, “Fee-based service.” Woops. Needless to say, the credit card is getting paid today. Then I’ll call once the check clears. So, a little while longer of this crap.

One thing that is making me happier is to see that more companies are hiring. Come on and look at my resume. Come on!!!!

Easter is coming. My church is offering services tomorrow afternoon, so my parents and I will be doing that. This got me thinking about Easter when I was younger. Here are my random thoughts about it:

  • The church that I grew up at only began doing Easter Egg Hunts in the mid ’80s, and I remember that Easter of 1987 they had the best candied eggs that year. (Yeees, I started my weight loss program yesterday, the food’s not bad on it, but good grief, the portions are small!!)
  • There are pictures of my sister and I hunting for eggs when we were kids, but I scarcely remember doing it. I remember doing it once before leaving for Sunday School on Easter Sunday. My sister was still asleep, so it was just me and my mom out in the backyard. My mom got pretty creative that hunt, and at the end, I had to reach into a paper bag without looking and pulled out the biggest bunny ever (Well, to a 4 or 5-year-old, that is).
  • I must have been the most naiive child to ever live, because I remember one Easter that my dad took me shopping for my own gift and I did not know it!!! What happened was that my Nana was pretty sick the Easter when I was in second grade and so she must have told my dad here’s some money, go buy the girls some stuffed animals from me. So….My dad concocted this whole story that I needed to help him buy stuffed animals for some needy kids and would I help him out. LOL. What amazes me is that I went along with it!!! Of course, I was a little saddened that they weren’t for me, but I was a happy camper on Easter Sunday. Why he just didn’t send my mother is beyond me…
  • I remember my mom making us hold an Easter egg hunt for my cousins when they were visiting one Easter. For some reason they misbehaved and my aunt told them, “GO TO YOUR COUSINS ROOMS!!!” (Yeah, what a punishment…)

And so, these are my Easter memories. What are yours?
